How to join
Suffolk Credit Union is a successful not-for-profit mutual financial co-operative. This means that unlike banks, we are owned by our members who have an equal voice in matters that affect the credit union.
To qualify for membership of Suffolk Credit Union and access our savings and loan products, you must live or work in Suffolk and either deliver a public service, receive a public-sector pension, serve as a councillor or be a close family member, living in the same household, of an existing member.
Your employer deducts money from your wages/salary each payday, making saving and building personal wealth easier. You will receive a statement twice a year (or on request), which will confirm any payments paid into or taken out of your credit union account.
Every member of our credit union is a saver, from those putting a little bit away each month while repaying their loan, to those saving up something special.
Join for just £5
Just complete a Membership Application Form and send it back to us. Or, if you prefer, contact us directly if you wish to discuss your application.
The £5 one-off joining fee is taken out of your first deduction.
As a member, you become a co-shareholder in the Credit Union. You have a vote and an equal say in the running of the Credit Union, and you can also stand for election at the AGM to be on one of the committees.
To comply with current money laundering legislation a representative of Suffolk Credit Union must see two forms of identification when you join:
- Picture identification
- Address verification.
These can include:
- Passport
- Driving licence
- Rent card
- Bank book
- Utility bill
- Council tax bill
- National Insurance card
As FREE Life Insurance Cover is linked to your shares you will be asked to nominate a beneficiary for your life insurance in the event of your death. You can change this later if you wish.
When your application has been approved you will receive your unique membership number.
